Greater Hartford Legal Aid (GHLA)
GHLA helped M.K. and her disabled daughter from becoming homeless when their federal low-income housing was scheduled for demolition.
The Housing Authority had denied M.K.’s request to relocate to other subsidized housing, alleging nonpayment of rent. GHLA's investigation disclosed that the Housing Authority had miscalculated M.K.’s rent and that she had actually overpaid. GHLA made sure that the Housing Authority corrected the error, reimbursed M.K. for the overpayment, helped them move, and ensured that the family’s new apartment was wheelchair accessible.
