Moses Beckett

Moses Beckett is the director of the housing unit at Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut (SLS), where he is proud to advance their mission by assisting low-income individuals and families in avoiding eviction and securing safe, affordable housing. Before taking on this role, he served as the managing attorney for SLS’s housing unit and was previously a staff attorney at the program. He also oversees Connecticut’s Right to Counsel Program hotline. The establishment of this hotline made Connecticut the third state in the nation to offer free legal representation to income-eligible tenants facing eviction or the loss of housing subsidies.
Attorney Beckett chairs the Future of the Legal Profession Scholars Program Scholarship Committee, which selects scholarship recipients to address the underrepresentation in the legal field and enhance the pipeline of diverse talent entering Connecticut’s legal profession. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Legal Aid and Public Defense Committee, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee, and the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association.
Attorney Beckett obtained his B.A. in public relations and marketing from Quinnipiac University and his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where he served as the secretary of the Black Law Student Association, was a member of the gospel choir, and worked as a resident assistant.
